  • Family: Verbenaceae
  • Form: Evergreen sprawling semi-woody shrub, reaching 4-5 ft.
  • Leaves: Simple, opposite, serrate, glabrous
  • Stem/Bark: Green turning semi-woody with age
  • Flower: Purple, borne on spikes
  • Fruit: Schizocarp
  • Comments: Often confused with non-native Stachytarpheta urticifolia, but distinguished by scariously margins mostly above the middle of the floral bract, rather than below the middle
