- Family: Rubiaceae
- Form: Large shrub or small tree, often multi-trunked, reaching 4-12 ft.
- Leaves: Simple, whorled or opposite, entire; green often with reddish color
- Stem/Bark: Brown
- Flower: Red to orange, tubular
- Fruit: Berry, red and purple
- Comments: Compact forms are available with redder foliage, shorter internodes, and smaller leaves
