Bloodberry, Butterfly Sage

  • Family: Boraginaceae
  • Form: Multi-stemmed, rounded, evergreen shrub, reaching 6-8 ft.
  • Leaves: Simple, alternate, dentate, scabrous
  • Stem/Bark: Dark brown
  • Flower: White, small, in globed clusters
  • Fruit: Drupe, red, in clusters
  • Comments: A related native species, Cordia sebestena, is also available in the trade for coastal areas but is a small tree form with large coarse leaves and showy orange flower clusters
