- Form: Single- or multiple-stemmed shrub reaching 12 ft. tall
- Leaves: Simple, alternate, glabrous, deeply toothed near apex
- Stem/Bark: Grey to brown, becoming rougher with age
- Flower: Small white flowers in clusters, dioecious
- Fruit: Achene with white prominent scales
- Comments: Related to Baccharis angustifolia (also native to Florida) but distinguished by wider leaves
