Family: Ulmaceae

Form: Deciduous tree, reaching 40 to 70 ft.

Leaves: Alternate, elliptic, acute apex, doubly-serrate

Stem/Bark: Grayish brown, shallowly furrowed; branches having corky, lateral winged appendages on each side

Flower: Reddish-green, small and inconspicuous, in clusters on drooping stalks

Fruit: Samara, rounded and winged, ciliate

Comments: Ulmus alata is one of four Elm trees native to Florida . Ulmus americana is also used in landscapes, having larger leaves and unwinged branches.
