Form: Evergreen shrub or small tree, reaching 25 ft

Leaves: Simple, alternate, entire, silvery pubescence

Stem/Bark: Trunk becomes fissured with age

Flower: Small, white terminal panicles, inconspicuous

Fruit: Purple to red, conelike

Comments: Green buttonwood (Conocarpus erectus) is less commonly used in the landscape but easily distinguished by green leaves that are not pubescent.
