  • Family: Combretaceae
  • Form: Evergreen shrub or small tree, reaching 25 ft.
  • Leaves: Simple, alternate, entire, silvery pubescence
  • Stem/Bark: Trunk becomes fissured with age
  • Flower: Small, white terminal panicles, inconspicuous
  • Fruit: Purple to red, conelike
  • Comments: Green buttonwood (Conocarpus erectus) is less commonly used in the landscape but easily distinguished by green leaves that are not pubescent
