Jamaican Caper

  • Family: Capparidaceae
  • Form: Evergreen shrub or small tree reaching 20 ft. tall
  • Leaves: Simple, alternate, glabrous, orangish petioles, slightly emarginate apices. Green, glabrous upper leaf surface, lepidote underside
  • Stem/Bark: Single- or multiple-trunk
  • Flower: Bisexual, four white petals, white with pink center, long filaments
  • Fruit: Dehiscing long-stalked capsule
  • Comments: There is a similar native, C. flexuosa, which can be distinguished by a glabrous lower leaf surface and sprawling growth habit.
