Callicarpa americana


  • Family: Verbenaceae
  • Form: Deciduous or semi-deciduous shrub, reaching 6-8'
  • Leaves: Simple, opposite, serrate margins, pubescent, prominent veins
  • Stem/Bark: Brown or gray, with lenticels
  • Flower: Pink to lavendar, flowers in axillary cymes, multiple stamens with long filaments
  • Fruit: Purple, berry-like drupe occuring in sessile clusters, persistant and highly ornamental
  • Comments: The 'alba' variety has white fruit
