  • Family: Myrsinaceae
  • Form: Multi-stemmed evergreen shrub or small tree reaching 20 ft.
  • Leaves: Simple, alternate, entire, elliptic
  • Stem/Bark: Gray
  • Flower: White, in panicle inflorescences, fragrant
  • Fruit: Drupes, borne in terminal clusters, dark-purple
  • Comments: This wonderful native should not be confused with two FLEPPC Category I invasive species: Ardisia crenata (having red berries and crenate leaf margins) or Ardisia elliptica (having ovoid, larger dark purple fruit hanging from distinct pedicles)
