Water Management District Employee:

"Monsanto is a large corporation with lots of resources, capital and political.  Working for a governmental agency makes me aware of the effects of politics.  I feel it is a large game of one hand washes the other.   Many companies develop new products and wait for them to be approved by the EPA.   Well, large companies can have an advantage over smaller companies.  These large firms may fund certain political campaigns, which could help their products to be pushed to the front of the line quicker.  This affects the water and other parts of the environment because the most enviro-conscious product could be sitting at the back of the line.  The less politically powerful firm may not have the same opportunities.   A good example is the Bt genetically engineered plants.  The legislature has these tied up.  I think that plants of this nature will benefit the environment by reducing pesticides use."
