Student 6:

  1. Ag-lands provide hydrologic function to adjacent ecosystems.
  2. Reduce nutrient loads from agricultural areas to downstream receiving water and marshes.
  3. Create and enhance habitat for wildlife with ag landscape.

" I chose number one, "to enable agricultural lands to provide important hydrological functions to adjacent natural ecosystems similar to those that were provided by these same lands prior to their use for agriculture," as the number one objective.  This could possibly be the most difficult objective to implement, however, also the most important in terms of ecosystem restoration.  To accommodate this objective there should be certain regulations set forth requiring minimal destruction of wetlands and their adjacent upland buffers on the agland site itself.   Also, ditching and diking should be kept to a minimum.  This would not only benefit the site in question but aid in water flow and retention in a regional manner."
